Thirteen superb workshops taught by the industry's top trainers and executives helped make the ASA Education Foundation's recently completed Institute for Distribution Management 2001 the most popular event in recent years.
IDM 2001 pulled over 85 sales representatives, sales managers, warehouse managers, branch managers, manufacturer reps and purchasing managers from across the
US to convene at the Indiana University/Purdue University Conference Center in Indianapolis. On April 1-4, participants learned and shared experiences in workshop sessions while significantly enhancing their management, technological and interpersonal skills.

Content for IDM 2001 addressed four critical areas of concern: sales and sales management, warehouse management, branch management, and personal skills for excellence. The flexible format encouraged participants and their supervisors to select a personalized program of workshops that would effectively accelerate their personal development. Additional programs taught participants how to implement and manage technology in sales and operations management.
As a special incentive, MDA offered a full-tuition scholarship for one attendee to the 2001 Institute. The scholarship enabled one individual from a member company to attend the Institute free of charge. Dusty Smart of Reeves-Wiedeman Co. in Emporia, Kan. was the lucky winner of a drawing held in early March, and attended IDM compliments of MDA.
"The Institute is of great value to our industry. All the courses I took were very helpful," said Smart. "The Robert Footlik seminar on running a profitable warehouse was especially good. He covered a lot of very useful material very efficiently, and had a no-nonsense approach to this topic which was helpful."

As the ASA Education Foundation moves forward with plans for IDM 2002, it
will continue to focus on sales and sales management, warehouse and warehouse management and the personal and interpersonal skills that will help participants maximize their professional development. For the latest information, please
